As part of its UK launch, Global Ride-sharing economy firm Splend has made a series of senior hires.
David Moggs has been appointed CTO, joining from Argos, whilst Gizem Akyil moves from Deliveroo to become Splend’s head of expansion, and UK country manager Justin Patterson joins from Addison Lee.
Moggs joins from Argos where he was Head of Software Engineering, Trading and Personalisation – leading multiple technology teams to build products and services to increase the commercial capabilities across the Sainsbury’s Argos group. Previous roles included Director of Engineering at Skyscanner and Head of European Technology at Camelot.
Bringing 20 years’ worth of fleet and operations experience, Patterson was named fleet manager of the year in the 2013 awards when working at Mitie, and earlier this year collected the industry’s prestigious fleet of the year award in his role as head of operations at Addison Lee.
Akyil has more than 10 years strategy, operations and expansion experience and joins from Deliveroo where she was Global Head of Expansion for their ‘Dark Kitchens’ Editions business.
“Splend has grown quickly and established a reputation as innovators in the industry – and this is reflected in the high calibre of the staff that we’re attracting.” said CEO and founder Chris King.
“The investment we’ve made in our new leadership team, HQ and dedicated driver hub marks a significant milestone in our journey to support ride-share drivers all around the world.”
Founded in Sydney in 2015 and backed by Investec, Splend has raised $10 million equity to date and expanded to nine cities in Europe, the Americas and Australia, whilst building a global team of over 150 employees.
Splend provides eco-friendly and affordable cars to on-demand drivers who work for companies like Uber. Most importantly, drivers also benefit from unique training, analytics and community provided by Splend, that empowers them to become more profitable, safer, and fulfilled in their work. Splend also handles all of the necessary financing, insurance and maintenance, so that drivers can focus on earning an income.
